Predict Units Sold per Year

Help with this Page

This is a wild-ass guess (WAG) technique for predicting how much revenue you think your company will make. It works by you stating how many units you think you will sell of each product in each market each year. Offtoa then multiplies your estimate of units sold by the unit price to compute revenue. Very simple! However, nobody is going to believe your revenue numbers, and you shouldn't either. The reason is that this technique completely ignores how you are going to sell those units, so it is okay for you to use when you first start thinking about your company, but you will have to move to a bottom-up technique before your planning is done.

To use this technique, simply enter the number of units you will sell each year in the boxes shown below.:

Just enter zeroes in the first and/or second years.

Can I import numbers from my own spreadsheet?

Feel free to model your sales process using your own spreadsheet. Then copy the annual units sold (i.e., the “bottom line”) from your spreadsheet to the blanks in Offtoa.
