Why is the Cash or Cash Equivalents at the top of my balance sheet not equal to the cash at the bottom of my cash flow statement?

Two possible reasons:

  1. First, make sure you are looking at the same period of time. The balance sheet is for a snapshot in time and you should be comparing its cash to the cash balance on a cash flow statement whose period ends on the same date.
  2. Assuming that you are comparing apples and apples, the only other reason that can cause this discrepancy is an error in the formulae you are using to create your spreadsheets. We recommend that you use Offtoa to prevent the problem.
